Speaking at the CIO Summit being held at Pune, Amod Ranade, general manager-Data Center Business development, Schneider Electric, shed light on how energy management is vital to achieving proper energy conservation.?
?We have to reduce carbon emissions from our side,? he said. ?Wherever I consume energy, I have to see to that I do it efficiently. Whenever we build an uptime into a datacenter, we have to oversize the datacenter to accommodate it,? Ranade stated, adding that this is where the energy dilemma lies.
?Ranade stated that while today, the datacenters are more efficient than earlier datacenters of similar sizes, the trade-off has been that for the very same size, today?s datacenters also consumer more energy.
Ranade said that energy demand is on the increase and that by 2050, it?d reach twice its current demand.
He added that given this scenario, organizations better shape up, and shape up quick. ?Today, it is our choice to manage energy efficiently. But the day is not far when it will be the organizations? duty to be watchful of their energy consumption,? he said.
He also went on to say that various organizations such as Green Grid, and the governments of the U.S. and some European countries are bringing about rules to this effect, and that organizations would be well-advised to start prioritizing energy conservation policies.
